Before and After Photos

About Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation is a procedure that enhances the appearance of the breasts, often through the use of implants. (2) We offer several different types of implants, with variations in shape, size, and material. Our experts can help each patient find the best implants for their goals and anatomy, helping them achieve natural-looking enhancements that inspire confidence within.

Saline Implants

Saline breast implants are filled with a sterile saltwater solution, but they are often placed empty into the chest. The surgeon fills the implants after placing them, allowing for more customizable results.

Silicone Implants

Silicone implants are composed of a silicone shell and a cohesive silicone gel filling. Some consider these implants to offer a more natural feel compared to saline implants, as they are thought to be less likely to cause rippling.

Gummy Bear Implants

Gummy bear implants are a subset of silicone implants that are filled with a highly cohesive silicone filling. These implants are also known as cohesive gel implants. (3) Gummy bear implants are ideal for patients interested in more enhanced fullness at the bottom of their breasts.

Benefits of Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation offers numerous advantages for each patient, which often include:

  • Increased Self-Confidence: Enhanced breast size and shape can lead to an improvement in self-esteem, body image, and confidence.
  • Adjusts Asymmetry: Women with uneven breasts can achieve symmetry through augmentation.
  • Volume Restoration: Implants help restore lost breast volume, especially after weight loss or breastfeeding.
  • Longevity of Results: Breast implants are designed to last, allowing for years of enhanced appearance without frequent replacements.
  • Customizable Options: Patients can choose from various sizes, shapes, and types of implants based on their desired results.
  • Combined Procedures: Breast augmentation can easily be combined with other aesthetic surgeries, such as other breast enhancement procedures.

Ideal Candidates for Breast Augmentation

Ideal candidates for breast augmentation include women interested in using breast implants to enhance the volume and symmetry of their breasts. Women seeking breast reconstruction after undergoing a mastectomy or injury may also make suitable candidates.

All candidates interested in breast augmentation should be in good overall health without any underlying medical conditions that may impair healing. It is also important that realistic expectations are held regarding what this procedure can accomplish.

Pregnant women, as well as those with a sensitivity to silicone, are not recommended for this treatment. Those who do not qualify are still encouraged to reach out so that our team may recommend a suitable alternative. Ultimately, our surgeons will determine each patient’s candidacy during their consultation.

Personal Consultation

Each patient is required to attend a personal consultation at our office in Knoxville. This consultation is not only a chance for our team to get to know each patient on a more personal level, but also to ensure we recommend the best treatment options for them. The surgeons will discuss the details of breast augmentation with each individual, as well as the different types of implants. A series of questions will also be asked about their medical history and goals before their general health and anatomy are evaluated. Using this information, our surgeons will confirm each patient’s candidacy and help them craft their treatment plan.

Preparation

The surgeon will give each patient a set of pre-operative instructions during their consultation to help them prepare for their procedure. Each instruction should be followed, as preparation is essential for facilitating a smooth recovery.

Patients will need to take time away from work and other social commitments to focus on their recovery. Any prescriptions or medications should be filled in advance, and transportation home after the procedure should be arranged. Individuals may need to discontinue using blood-thinning medications and supplements. If applicable, smoking or using nicotine products should be ceased several weeks in advance, fully abstaining from use until recovered. Drinking alcohol should also be avoided before and after the procedure.

Procedure

Breast augmentations are performed on an outpatient basis and typically take 1.5 to 2 hours to perform. The procedure begins with the administration of general anesthesia. Once deemed comfortable and relaxed, the surgeon will begin placing the incisions. The inframammary incision is the most widely used at our office, but the placement of the incisions will vary depending on the extent of correction and will be determined during the consultation.

Incision placements include:

  • Inframammary Incision: This incision extends horizontally beneath the breast crease, also known as the inframammary fold. This is the most commonly performed augmentation technique and is ideal for minimizing any visible scarring.
  • Periareolar: Periareolar incisions are made around the outside perimeter of the areolas.
  • Transaxillary: Also known as the armpit incision, this is placed within the armpit. This incision is not as widely performed but leaves no visible scarring on the breasts.

After the incision has been made, the surgeon will create a pocket for the breast implant. The implant may be placed above the pectoralis muscle, known as subglandular placement, or may be placed under the muscle, known as submuscular placement. (2) The implants will then be placed and filled if needed. Once each patient’s desired results have been achieved, the incisions will be closed, and each patient will continue resting under the careful watch of the Premier Plastic Surgery team until they are cleared to go home.

Recovery

Each patient will receive post-operative instructions from their surgeon to help guide them through their recovery phase. During this time, it is common for patients to experience swelling or bruising near the treatment area. These effects are temporary and will subside on their own, but may also be managed with the designated pain relief. After three to four days, patients will need to return to our office for a follow-up appointment so that our team can check their progress.

Many patients can return to work within one to two weeks, but this depends on the nature of their careers and their natural healing response. High-impact and physical activities should, however, be avoided for several more weeks, until their surgeon approves.

Results

Breast Augmentation Premier Plastic Surgery

A noticeable difference in the contours of the chest may initially be seen after the procedure. However, the full results will become more apparent after any remaining swelling subsides. Women will be able to enjoy enhanced breast fullness, symmetry, and shape. The results of breast augmentation last for years to come, but all patients must replace their implants every 10-15 years. (3) This duration may vary.
