Thighplasty

Following massive weight loss, many patients find that they have poor skin tone on their thighs. This may result in severe dimpling (cellulite), transverse wrinkles, saddle bags or hanging skin. A thigh lift is a procedure that involves the removal of excess skin and fat from either the inner or outer thighs. This body contouring procedure is often desirable after substantial or bariatric weight loss or in individuals for whom dieting and exercise have failed to reduce excess tissue in their upper thighs.

Medial (inner) thigh lift

An incision is made in the groin area, and any excess fat and skin are excised along the inner aspect of the thigh. In certain cases, Liposuction may be performed on inner thighs. The area from the groin to the knee is recontoured. For laxity that extends to the knee, a thigh lift is done with an incision that goes all the way down the inner thigh. Though the scar is long, it allows for ideal tightening and re-contouring of the thigh.

Lateral (outer) thigh lift

This is a more complex procedure. It usually involves recontouring of the buttocks as well as the outer thighs and removal of more tissue. Scarring is more extensive, and the skin will be less elastic after the surgery, so weight should be maintained.

Recovery from the procedure

During the first two weeks  you should only engage in light activities. You may resume driving and walking for exercise after the first two to three weeks, when these activities do not cause pain. Avoid heavy lifting and jogging for six to eight weeks.
